America has received a wake up call!
I hear that sentiment expressed at every turn.
I agree with that in principle.
As a nation we need to get back to the so-called "old fashioned" principles that this nation was founded on.
However, instead of pointing fingers at the heathen element in this nation, I think we need to take a long, hard look at ourselves.
I think the wakeup call is meant for Christians, as much as, if not more than the rest of the nation.
We Christians need to stop beating the drum of Social Change. We need to stop focusing on things like abortion, prayer in school, and the evils of homosexuality, pornography, or whatever else upsets most Christians these days.
We all need to focus on important issues, not the trivia that has occupied most Americans in the last few years.
Before 09/11/01 there were churches that seemed to think that the most important issue of the day was to keep their children from reading Harry Potter books!
I submit to you that instead of pointing fingers at something that we dislike, or even know with certainty that God hates, we start to be true Ambassadors for Christ, living our daily lives according to His Will and presenting the Gospel correctly when the opportunity arises.
When we run around pointing fingers accusingly at some unimportant social issue all we do is look like idiots in the eyes of the world.
If I were unsaved, I would not want anything to do with Christianity as it is portrayed by many Christians today.
True Christianity is a relationship with God, not a religion.
Religion is the Devil's Ace Trump; it is a system whereby man attempts to gain the approbation of God through some system of works.
As the scriptures teach, Salvation is freely available to all through Faith alone in Christ alone.
Salvation is a gift from God; it is not of works lest any man should boast.
After Salvation, we need to grow in Grace and the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. We should not be involved in activism. We should not be attempting to pass legislation to impose our viewpoint on others.
Emotionalism is not Spirituality as in mistakenly believed in many churches today.
As goes the Christian so goes this great nation.
If you want to do something for this country, I suggest you find a church that has a pastor that rightly divides the Word of Truth.
If you live some place where there are no good churches teaching sound doctrine, then I suggest you get tapes, CDs, DVDs, MP3s, or whatever, from some place.
I suggest getting them from one of the best Pastor/Teachers I know of today. Berachah Church in Houston, TX or Grace Bible Church in Somerset, MA
